LAX Workers Flying High After Strike
On April 14th, low wage airport workers in LA went on strike to protest their poor working conditions. With 12 LA City Council members, they marched through the LAX terminal to voice their concerns. The workers, known as the Flying Food Group Workers work mostly in the kitchens at LAX and were protesting the lack of tools, such as knives, to do their jobs as well as the lack of hiring leading to workers being forced to work excessive amounts of overtime. The workers also said that they are being less than the cities living wage ordinance requires. The protest brought it with it sizable media attention. In the week following, UNITE HERE, the union representing the workers has reported improvements in their workplace.
