The biggest Food Drive story never told
Did you know that the Annual Letter Carriers food drive is this Saturday?
This Saturday, the largest food drive in the country will take place. The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is put on by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Taking part in the food drive is simple, all you have to do is leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday and your union letter carrier will come by and collect them. Then the letter carrier will bring them to a distribution point where the food will be sorted and sent to a local food bank. Your donations are especially important as many food banks see an increase in use over the summer. Many children rely on free and reduced lunches during the school year and once school is out they turn to these local food banks for help.
When giving don’t be cheap! Head out to your local union grocery store and get some things that people will actually want to eat. Here are some of the items that are most popular at food banks:
- Canned Meat or Fish
- Canned Fruits and Vegetables
- Peanut Butter
- Milk Products
- Grain Products
- Baby Food
The NALC has put out a video to show you the people who are helped when you donate. Check it out below.
