Nurses Strike in New York
Demanding a fair contract, nurses at Montefiore Hospital are taking part in a two day strike
Nurses in New Rochelle, New York, the original hotspot for the COVID-19 outbreak on the East Coast, went on strike today. Below is a petition that they are asking people to sign to pressure their hospital, Montefiore New Rochelle, into working with the union on a fair contract.
The New Rochelle community was ground zero during the first wave of COVID-19 this spring. The nurses who worked at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital worked heroically through the first wave, under strenuous conditions that exposed them to the coronavirus, causing illness and even death.
As our community braces for a resurgence of COVID, it is essential that Montefiore do more to prepare. The nurses are calling for a fair contract that ensures there are enough nurses to deliver quality care for our community. Nurses need a voice. We urge Montefiore to stop the intimidation and instead listen to their frontline heroes. Don’t just thank them with applause and advertisements—honor them by settling a fair contract now!
