From the New York Times via Politico: Bill O'Reilly settled 5 harassment claims; Bill O'Reilly and Fox News quietly settled five sexual harassment claims in recent years to the tune of $13 million, the New York Times reported over the weekend. The women "complained about a wide range of behavior, including verbal abuse, lewd comments, unwanted advances and phone calls in which it sounded as if Mr. O'Reilly was masturbating, according to documents and interviews.

" Two of the settlements occurred after Fox News's former chairman, Roger Ailes, was forced out last summer amid multiple accusations of sexual harassment. Fox News's employment contracts contain mandatory arbitration clauses that in the past have usually kept such settlements secret (thereby allowing Fox News to avoid addressing what appears to be an endemic problem there). New York Magazine media reporter and Ailes biographer Gabriel Sherman tweeted Saturday that more sexual harassment lawsuits were coming this week. Read the Times story here.

One of the lawsuits brought against Ailes was brought by on air personality Gretchen Carlson.  As UCOMM Blog previously reported Carlson alleged that she was fired after she claimed that the Fox chairmen sexually harassed her.  The case was settled out of court.

Update: A third women has now joined a racial discrimination suit against Fox News. Click here to read more.

Update 2: A CNN reporter now claims the Ailes sexually harrassed her, while a former guest on Hannity's show says the host invited her back to his room after she appeared on the show.
