Protect Our Heroes

14 years after the 9/11 attacks, the unions representing the first responders are once again fighting to protect these heroes.  5 years ago, after a long battle with Congress, the Zadroga Act was passed.  This act financed medical care for those with conditions that resulted from the rescue and cleanup effort at the World Trade Center site.  However the act had a sunset provision that lasted only 5 years.  Now, 5 years later, the medical conditions have only gotten worse and the money may run out, unless Congress makes it permanent.  Senator Gillibrand, along with NY’s Bravest, Finest and Strongest are leading the fight to make the act permanent. Gillibrand worries that a lack of urgency will ultimately prevent the act from being renewed and cause a loss of benefits for these people.
