Letter Carrier Killed in Recent Mass Shooting
Mary Granados was killed as the shooter stole her postal van
Over the Labor Day weekend, yet another mass shooting took place. This time the shooting took place in Odessa, Texas. 25 people were injured, and 7 victims died before police were able to stop the suspect.
One of the dead was Mary Granados, a letter carrier in the area. Granados was killed when the shooter decided to dump his car and steal her postal vehicle. Granados was just 29 years old.
"We are deeply saddened by the senseless murder of Odessa, TX Branch 3964 letter carrier Mary Granados,” said Fredric Rolando, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers. “We send our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to Mary's family loved ones, friends, and co-workers. She was doing the job she loved and was serving the public when she was shot, and her postal vehicle hijacked in Saturday's shooting rampage. Our thoughts are with sister Granados and with all the victims of this tragic event."
The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) issued a similar statement saying that a tragedy like this hits at the “heart of our postal community.”
All of our thoughts and prayers are with the victims.
