Call Center Legislation Awaiting Governor's Signature
With over 15,000 hard working power professionals throughout New York State represented by 18 local unions, the IBEW Utility Labor Council of NYS, cares about the safety of utility workers, the customers they service and the communities in which we live and work.
Earlier this legislative session we sent out our 2014 Legislative Agenda with some perspective into the Governors 2014 State Budget. We had a successful lobby day where we met with dozens of elected officials from across New York State.
We discussed many issues including the ones listed below. A common theme discussed was a utility workers' safety - which should never be a guessing game. The laws and policies that affect our work should be held to those same standards. That is why it is important that we are at the table every step of the way. For your convenience, we listed below a brief synopsis of where we stand as an organization on legislation that we lobbied for this past legislative session. With an election year upon us, our support will be reflective of the progress that you see below.
A union utility worker performs their vital duties all year round, and do their difficult and dangerous jobs every year, not just during an election year. These IBEW power first responders keep the gas flowing and the lights on all year, regardless if the polls are open or not. We expect that same work ethic and commitment from our elected officials.
