Yesterday the Democratic Assembly in New York , proposed passing a minimum wage increase for Long Island and NY City.  The proposal would raise the wage to $12.50/hour by then end of the year and $15/hour by the end of 2018.   Tipped workers would also see an increase under this plan.

"Raising the minimum wage is about a moral obligation we have to help families across the state who are struggling to get by," said Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie.  This rasie would put low wage workers in a better financial spot in some of the most expensive communities in the country.  This would also put NYC and Long Island on par with San Fransico for the highest local minimum wages in the country.
