Duquesne Light Rate Increase
Duquesne filed for a rate increase with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) on Friday August 2, 2013. This increase, if granted by the PUC is for an 11.3% increase in rates or $76.3 million dollars. Duquesne is asking for the increase to take effect October 1, 2013 but acknowledges that the PUC will most likely suspend that date pending a PUC investigation on the request that they expect to take about nine months before reaching their conclusion. Duquesne states that the increase is needed to pay for upgrading and replacing underground distribution equipment, infrastructure improvements, the new FOCUS customer information system, smart meter implementation, and upgrades for enhanced cyber security.
