Duquesne Light Negotiations
The Union and Duquesne Light have reached an agreement to open Contract Negotiations for 2013. The opening session will occur on Tuesday, July 30th. At this session the Union will present the Company with its contract proposals to extend the current contract past the September 30th expiration date and we would expect the Company to present any proposals they have to the Union at this time also.
We will also meet on Thursday, August 1st. The next meeting after that won't occur until Tuesday August 13th at that point several meetings are scheduled per week through August and September. The Union Committee has met several times in preparation and will be meeting again to finalize their 2013 proposals before the start of negotiations. This year's Committee will be headed by Business Manager, Jeff Davis and includes Senior Business Representatives; Len Aleski, Bob Harrold and John Buffalini; Executive Board Members; Bill Webb, Craig Johnson and Dina Hindman; and Stewards; Garbie Dukes and Kris Anderson. Also part of the Committee are IBEW International Representative Mike Welsh and Assistant Business Manager Jim Britsch.
The goal of the Committee is to reach a settlement that is fair and equitable to the Members of Local 29 that are employed by Duquesne and to have it done and ratified before the existing contract expires. We will be using our new electronic version of "Watt's Current" to keep the membership informed on this year's negotiations. We will also be launching the use of our "Local 29 Text Messaging" System for any breaking news that happens through the negotiation process. If you have not yet signed up for the e-mail based "Watt's Current" or the "Local 29 Text Messaging" you can do that on our newly designed website at www.ibew29.org.
