$15 to cross please
NYC crossing guards are tasked with making sure hundreds of thousands of kids arrive and leave school safely every day. They put up with harassment from motorist and work outside in all types of weather. In many ways, they are a vital part of the Mayor's new Vision Zero program. Yet the 2,300 crossing guards in NYC are only paid $11.50/hr and only work 25 hours a week. So this week, crossing guards, DC 37 the union that represents them, and local politicians called on the mayor to bring their wage up to $15/hr, on par with what he is calling for fast food restaurants to pay their workers.
