FENOC Contract Ratified
Message from Business Manager Jeff Davis
Yesterday, Tuesday September 23rd, the membership of Local 29 that work at FirstEnergy's Beaver Valley Power Station, attended meetings to hear the details of the then tentative four year agreement with FirstEnergy's Nuclear division, FENOC. The meetings were held at the Union Hall of IBEW Local Union 712 in Beaver, PA. Three separate meetings were held to accommodate workers on all shifts with the 4:30 PM meeting being the largest attendance by far.
The four year agreement has wage and shift increases in each year of the contract along with one time increases in meal allowance, safety allowance and per diem payments when working at one of the Company's other Nuclear plants. The agreement also includes pension updates in each year of the contract and yearly increases in the health care coverage cost. A new Cash Balance Pension Plan will be used for new hires after January 1, 2015.
The biggest area of concern was the elimination of the existing Retiree Medical payment system that is currently used. The existing system will continue until December 31, 2016. Starting with January 1, 2017 the Company will make payments into each employee's Health Savings Account once per year if they have an account, or into their 401K account if they don't have a Health Savings Account.
The members cast their votes for ratification at the conclusion of each meeting. 66% of those voting, voted to accept the new agreement. The actual vote total was 151 to accept and 77 to reject.
