No Racing Without Contract
Workers at Saratoga racetrack are standing up to the NY Racing Authority’s plan to renovate the track. The workers, along with their union the Hotel Trades Council, say that the redevelopment should be stopped until the tracks vendor, Centerplate begins treating their employees with the respect and dignity they deserve. The union says that workers are being underpaid, and have been cheated out of pension and retirement benefits. The workers, many of make less than $11.50 an hour, have not had a contract for over 6 months. The union also says that Centerplate has proposed eliminating waiters in the luxury suites for this year’s meet as retaliation for the union speaking out against the company. The Saratoga meet begins on July 24th.
