Petition campaign and PSE&G Pension meetings planned
Message from Don Daley, Business Manager:
Below you will find the text of a letter that went out to the entire IBEW 1049 membership regarding an important step in preventing National Grid from sending essential call center work off Long Island. Please continue to ask your friends and family to sign the online petition and download the petition here and circulate it in your community, church or social club. Below you will also see that we are working with PSE&G in creating (3) meetings to answer any question you may have with our pensions. I also want to remind you all of our upcoming Ladies Night Halloween Party at the Union Hall to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Our 1049 Youth Caucus is growing, with interested members signing up so lets continue to grow this organization. See you all at the meetings and continue to work safe. Storm season is here and more sooner than later, it will be our time to shine.
Call to Action: An important message from Business Manager Donald J Daley Jr.
National Grid has notified the New York State Public Service Commission of its intent to move over one hundred Local 1049 jobs, off Long Island. These jobs cover positions in the gas business unit handling the Call Center, customer representatives, billing and collections.
In order to comply with NYS Public Service Law, the company must ask the Public Service Commission for permission to move our jobs. Local 1049 objects to this plan as it greatly harms our sisters and brothers, and will significantly reduce important customer service positions for the community we serve.
This letter is a call to action! We must work together to send the message to the PSC and the politicians that National Grid must not be permitted to move our jobs off Long Island!
Enclosed with this letter is a petition I am asking all Local 1049 members, and their family and friends to sign. Please help your fellow sisters and brothers by getting your copy of this petition signed. Our spouses, significant others, brothers, sisters, moms and dads, neighbors and adult children are all encouraged to sign the petition. Please make every effort to get the petition signed and then return it to your union steward or send it directly to the union office by October 18th. If you need additional copies, ask your local union steward or call your Business Representative.
Please make every effort to get this petition signed. Thank you in advance for your solidarity on this most important issue facing our union.
With the highest regard, I remain
Donald J Daley Jr.
