Rally for Cage-Free Children
Unions are uniting to hold the largest labor led immigration rally in the nation next Wednesday in Philadelphia
Children are being ripped apart from their mothers and fathers only to be kept in cages like livestock. Their parents forcibly removed from the country and sent back to their gang ridden village in Central America without their children.
This is the reality for thousands of immigrant families who are coming to the United States to seek asylum and safety from their dangerous communities. Due to the zero-tolerance policy of Trump, these heartbreaking scenes are happening every day. For the last few months, rallies have occurred across the nation demanding an end to the no tolerance policy of separating parents from their children and demanding a fix to our nation’s immigration laws and policy.
With this in mind, UNITE HERE is teaming up with IUPAT District Council 21, SEIU 32 BJ, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT), the Philadelphia Council, AFL-CIO, the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO and a host of other local unions to put on the largest union led immigration march in the nation. The rally will take place on August 15th at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia. According to the rally’s Facebook event, unions will “take a stand to free the children, return them to their loved ones, and end family detention.”
The rally, which is being called, “Labor United to Free the Children,” will show the power of a united, mobilized labor movement insisting with one voice on liberty and justice for all. The organizers are hoping to unite public sector, private sector and building trades unions to stand up for immigrant families.
