UNITE HERE is working to protect housekeepers with a panic button bill

According to UNITE HERE, nearly 8 in 10 female hotel workers face harassment on the job.

Now UNITE HERE members in Long Beach California are following the lead of their breathern in NY and are working to pass a new law requiring hotels within the city to provide the housekeepers with panic buttons.  The law would also require a response from security in under 3 minutes. The resolution would also include a limit on the number of rooms that are required to be cleaned in a shift.

A similar bill was passed in NYC in 2012 to protect the thousands of housekeepers at both union and non-union hotels.
