With this great news, we here at UCOMM wanted to share come recent unions victories with you to help brighten the news. Here are three different organizations that decided to vote Union Yes!

Brightside Academy is an early education and child care provider with over 60 child care centers in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In New York, the company has seven locations throughout the Bronx that all voted to join AFSCME District Council 1707. DC 1707 had to hold seven separate elections in one week to cover all of the locations. The members of these units included all full and part-time lead teachers, assistant teachers, office managers, coordinators, cooks, janitors, and family advocates. Out of the 104 overall voters, 103 people voted to join the union, with only one voting against it.

A hotel in Chicago was the site of another labor victory. The Godfrey Hotel in Chicago, Illinois recently held an election to have its staff join UNITE HERE Local 1. Staff members included in the vote were all full and part-time room, night, minibar, house, public area, and laundry attendants. 26 out of 31 people voted in favor of joining the union.

In a close race, 13 out of 23 people voted to join the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Locals 68, 68A, 68B, 68C.
