Successful Union Elections
Union membership grows as workers vote to join the union movement in California, Florida and Missouri
It seems like every time you turn on the television, upsetting headlines are splattered across the screen. In these sad times, we at UCOMM thought it would help if we brought you some good news. In the past few days, there have been quite a few organizing victories. Here are four from across the country.
The Citizens Telecommunications Company of California voted to join the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 543. The company is a telephone operating company of Frontier Communications based out of Elk Grove, California. Out of 11 people that voted, 10 of them voted to join the IBEW. The bargaining unit is made up of service technicians, sales and service technician representatives and communication technicians.
The employees of MV Transportation held two elections on two different coasts this week. In Hanford, California, 8 out of 9 members voted to join Teamsters Local 517. The members of this bargaining unit were maintenance employees, A Mechanic, B Mechanic, C Mechanic, and utility workers. In Jacksonville, Florida, 8 out of 14 members voted to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). These members are dispatchers, schedulers, and road supervisors working out of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority facility.
Another great victory came from Mexico, Missouri. 26 out of 37 employees at Archer Daniels Midland Company voted to join the United Steelworkers union. All full and part-time production and maintenance employees working at the Mexico, Missouri facility were part of this vote.
We at UCOMM want to congratulate these new union members congratulations on their smart decision to vote Union Yes!
