The next time you watch Pawn Stars or the Real Housewives of New Jersey, you will be watching a union made show.  This week writers at Leftfield Entertainment, the largest reality show producers on the East Coast, voted to join the Writers Guild East.  Writers at Leftfield faced months of a relentless anti-campaign from Leftfield and their UK parent company ITV, but in the end voted overwhelmingly to join WGA East.  A campaign began 5 years ago to organize writers in the reality TV industry and to date WGA East has not lost a single election.  “It’s time for production companies like Leftfield to recognize that unionization is here to stay in nonfiction TV,” said Lowell Peterson, Executive Director of the Writers Guild of America, East. “Writer-producers know how important collective bargaining is to improving their working conditions and to building sustainable careers.”
